Kujira Ryukyu 15-Year Old is a Japanese single-grain whisky distilled from 100% premium rice and aged for at least 15 years in a combination of sherry, bourbon, and American white oak casks. It's produced by Masahiro Distillery, one of the oldest and largest in Okinawa. The whisky is known for its mellow taste, silky texture, and complex flavor profile, with notes of vanilla, honey, and spice.

Key characteristics:

  • Distilled from rice: Unlike many whiskies, Kujira Ryukyu is made from 100% rice.
  • 15+ years of aging: The whisky spends at least 15 years in a mix of sherry, bourbon, and American white oak barrels.
  • Subtropical climate influence: The warm and humid climate of Okinawa is said to contribute to the whisky's unique flavor development.
  • Non-chill filtered and non-colored: This preserves the whisky's natural character and flavor.
  • Flavor profile: The whisky offers a balance of sweet and spicy notes, with hints of fruit, vanilla, honey, and a subtle smoky spice, according to some retailers.
  • ABV: 43%.
